Insights, tips and conversations for parents.

Short, practical guidance to support your child's learning at home.

How to help your child build better study habits

Start small: a fixed 30 to 45 minute slot every day beats a long weekend session. Keep the same place and time, remove the phone from the desk, and begin with the easiest task to build momentum. Ask your child to explain one thing they learnt today; teaching it back is the fastest way to find gaps. Celebrate consistency, not only marks.

Understanding different learning styles

Some children understand best by seeing (diagrams, colour-coded notes), some by listening (explaining aloud, discussion) and some by doing (models, practice questions). Most use a mix. Watch how your child studies when they are enjoying it; that is your clue. A good home tutor adapts explanations to the way your child learns instead of repeating the same method louder.

Tips to make Maths easier at home

Use everyday moments: let your child calculate a shopping bill, measure ingredients or read a timetable. Practise mental maths for five minutes a day. When a sum goes wrong, ask your child to talk through each step; the mistake usually shows up on its own. Build strong tables and number sense in primary classes, because later topics depend on them.

Podcast: Conversations on school learning

In our podcast episodes, parents, teachers and tutors talk honestly about exam stress, screen time, motivation and how to support children who are falling behind. New episodes are shared on our YouTube and Instagram channels.

Creating the right study environment

A good study space is quiet, well lit, and has everything your child needs within reach: textbooks, notebooks, stationery and a water bottle. Keep the TV off and siblings busy during study time. A small timetable on the wall helps younger children know what comes next. Consistency of place helps the brain switch into study mode.
